Volunteering

At RDA West & Central Scotland Region, we are justifiably proud of the volunteers who give their time and expertise to deliver RDA activities all over the region, whether as coaches who run the sessions, leaders who lead the ponies or side-walkers who help riders needing a little extra support. Other volunteer roles include working outside in stable yards and grounds, or inside serving cups of tea and providing wonderful home-baking. In addition, all Groups have volunteer Trustees who are responsible for management and governance issues.

Contact your local group for an informal chat to find out what they are looking for - you don't need to have any previous experience working with horses or with people with disabilities. Full training will be given and you will never be asked to do something you don't feel comfortable with or ready for.

Coaching

West & Central Scotland Region is always looking to recruit new coaches.  A new RDA coaching pathway was officially launched in October 2018. There is a modular system for volunteers to train as coaches and we encourage and support coaches to progress through the pathway.

Coaches in training work towards gaining a RDA  Coach Certificate followed by a RDA Advanced Coach Certificate.  Much of the theoretical work can be done online at your own pace.  County and Regional coaches are appointed to advise and support our groups.

We have been carrying out our life-changing activities for almost 50 years, and take great pride in the exceptional standard of our coaches and volunteers.

We offer activities for all age groups and, wherever possible, to people with any disability – and you’re just as likely to find an RDA Group in an urban setting as a rural one across West & Central Scotland.

We rely entirely on voluntary help, donations and legacies to deliver our services.
